A Day in Salamanca

Must-sees in Salamanca

Main Square
The city's central square, especially beautiful in the evening with lighting. Perfect for coffee, tapas, or simply sitting and people-watching. The official Spanish tourism website recommends Plaza Mayor as a starting point for a day visit.

2. University of Salamanca
One of Spain's most famous historical universities. Tip: Look for the famous little frog on the facade.

3. Old and New Cathedral
Highly recommended. The climb up the towers, if open, is especially exciting because you get a great view of the city from there.

The House of Shells
The „House of Shells“ is one of the most well-known buildings in the city and is very centrally located.

5. Convent of San Esteban
An impressive monastery with beautiful architecture. Also very good as a photo spot.

6. Roman Bridge over the Tormes
Good for a walk, especially towards evening. From there you have a nice view back to the old town.

Relaxed program

Mornings: Coffee or churros at the Plaza Mayor.
Afternoon: Old Town, University, Casa de las Conchas.
Afternoon: Cathedral + View.
Evening: Eat tapas and go to the illuminated Plaza Mayor again.

Food & Drink

Salamanca is a university town, so there are many affordable bars and tapas places. Good areas are around the Plaza Mayor, Van Dyck Street and the streets around the university.

Short trips in the surrounding area

Hacienda Zorita It's a nice excursion if you like wine, history, and a bit of nature. The official Salamanca tourism website mentions it as a suggestion for the surrounding area.

Even the Silver Route It's interesting if you like historic routes and walks.

My tip: Salamanca is especially beautiful in the evening.. Plan time for the illuminated Plaza Mayor and a walk through the old town.
